Contacting ASDI: Office Staff

You can reach our office manager, Ms. Sandy Schultheis or our billing coordinator, Ms. Sandy Lucas at 410-938-8449. Please understand that you may well reach our answering service, but if you leave a message with them, we will get back to you.

Contacting ASDI: Getting More Information or Arranging a Consultation

To arrange a consultation or for further information, please contact either Dr. Shearer (410-938-8452) or Dr. Winston (410-938-8454). You may also contact us by e-mail at infoasdi@gmail.com. Phone calls are usually more expedient, but may not be answered until the next business day.

Insurance and Payment Information:

The Anxiety and Stress Disorders Institute of Maryland, LLP, no longer participates with any public or private insurance plans with the sole exception of Medicare (see below).

Private Insurance: Most insurance policies (but usually not HMOs) have "out-of-network" benefit plans which will reimburse patients directly for some portion of our fees. We encourage prospective patients to contact their insurance companies to determine their benefits for out-of-network outpatient mental health treatment, including relevant deductibles and requirements for pre-authorization if needed. ASDI clinicians will fill out treatment plans or call case managers to help you access your benefits for non-participating providers. We will also provide you with statements which document your diagnosis, payments and CPT codes so that you can file your own claims. However, as out-of-network providers, we no longer process claims or deal with collections from insurers.

Medicare: We have a limited number of clinicians who are eligible to accept Medicare and secondary Medigap policies when Medicare is applied. At a given time, we may not have a Medicare-eligible clinician available for a given presenting problem.

Medical Assistance: We are not providers for Medical Assistance.

Payment: We encourage check or cash payment at the time of service, but we also accept Master Card and Visa as a courtesy.

Selected low fee patients: We do have a very limited number of low-fee patients being treated by pre-doctoral trainees under supervision.

Other concerns: Please discuss any questions you have about fees and insurance with your therapist directly, particularly if there is a change in your circumstances.

Public education opportunities for current or former ASDI attendees:

At ASDI we are sometimes approached by the media to give them names of people who have various problems and disorders so they can be interviewed on radio, television, web or print media. Sometimes they would like to interview people who have been through treatment, sometimes they want to observe treatment, and sometimes they are interested in talking with family members as well. Sometimes they want to identify the patient, other times it can be done without identification. We do not want to put anyone in a position of being asked directly to participate in such an interview as it could seem ungrateful or ungenerous to turn down the experience. On the other hand, some folks really would like to share their experiences publicly and participate in public education about mental health issues and combat unnecessary stigma. So if you would like to be on a list of people who would welcome being contacted by media, please contact us at infoasdi@gmail.com and let us know what your interest might be.
